TELL MODERATE LIBERALS TO VOTE AGAINST THE “RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION BILL”

Send the following email to moderate Liberal MPs and Senators urging them to oppose the “Religious Discrimination Bill”.

Call on them to defend current anti-discrimination laws and not to allow special religious privilege to override equality protections.

Dear Liberal MP,
The Coalition’s “Religious Discrimination Bill” is an unnecessary backlash to marriage equality. It is pushed by groups behind the No Campaign.
It is the biggest attack on Australian anti-discrimination laws in our history.
The Bill weakens and removes existing state and federal anti-discrimination protections.
The Bill gives special privilege to people of faith to discriminate against others in schools, hospitals and other services. 
Allowing faith organisations to “hire according to faith” is just a smokescreen for denying employment to LGBT people and legally sacking those currently working in faith services offered to the public.  
The Bill also sanctions harmful speech in the name of religion by overriding state laws that have been in place for decades.
This Bill wages a ruthless, unnecessary and unwanted culture war on LGBTIQ+ people, but many others will be impacted.
This includes women, single parents, divorced partners, people with disabilities and those from minority faiths.
The Prime Minister had promised his Bill would be a shield and not a sword. He has not kept that promise. This Bill is a sword not a shield. 
Freedom of religion means protecting people from discrimination on the basis of faith. It does not mean allowing discrimination in the name of faith.  
We appeal to you to uphold existing anti-discrimination laws in the name of decency.
We urge you to oppose special rights in the name of religion and to vote against this Bill.
